FAQ
Questions the status pills raise
Plain answers, including the ones where the answer is “not yet”.
Checking names
Is checking free?
Yes. When the app opens, checking names will be free and rate-limited. Today nobody outside our team can run checks; this site shows recorded results.
Where does the availability verdict come from?
From the registry for that extension, asked over RDAP, the registries' own lookup protocol. Where a registry has no RDAP service we ask WHOIS. The source is shown next to every verdict.
Where does the price come from?
From the registrar's quote, fetched in the same request as the verdict. We show register and renewal prices separately.
What if a check fails?
The result says unknown or failed with the reason. We never turn a failed lookup into “available”.
Buying
Can I buy a domain here?
Not yet. Buying is off for everyone.
What does “gated” mean?
Confirming a purchase needs a server setting to be switched on, a one-time token from a fresh quote, a named approver and an approval reference. Today the setting is off, so the route refuses with 403 purchase_disabled.
When will buying open?
There's no date. When it changes, this page changes first.
Portfolio and monitors
Can I import my portfolio?
No bulk import. Add names one at a time on the Watch tab, or check a list of up to 20 on the Try page.
Will you alert me before a domain expires?
No. ZoneVouch gives one-off checks, not monitors. Run the expiry check on the Try page whenever you need it.
Can I delete a watchlist entry?
Yes. Removing a name is one action and nothing else happens.
Account, data and access
Do I need an account?
You'll need one for a personal watchlist and portfolio. Checking won't need one.
What do you keep about my searches?
See the privacy draft. It is under review, as marked.
Is the site accessible?
We build it to WCAG 2.2 AA and test colour contrast on every page at desktop and phone widths before release.
Who runs ZoneVouch?
